"The task that generative A.I. has been most successful at is lowering our expectations, both of the things we read and of ourselves when we write anything for others to read. It is a fundamentally dehumanizing technology because it treats us as less than what we are: creators and apprehenders of meaning. It reduces the amount of intention in the world."ALT

    – Ted Chiang, from “Why A.I. Isn’t Going to Make Art”

I’m so glad they got Ted Chiang – a wonderful writer of science fiction and thinker about technology, in my opinion – to write this essay. My favorite line was this:

Generative A.I. appeals to people who think they can express themselves in a medium without actually working in that medium.

Watching Totally Spies and really enjoying this layered joke.

The context is that the villain is attacking the city with a “nerd-ify ray” that makes everything nerdy.

article on bbc.com: France's language watchdog has told government officials to use French fetish terms instead of Japanese ones. The Académie Française today announced that French kinksters must use the term "maîtrise de la pisse" instead of the more widely-used Japanese loan word "omorashi". France's culture ministry told the AFP news agency that linguistic borrowings were "a barrier to understanding". But bladder control fetishists have criticised the ban, with one calling it "completely pointless". France regularly issues warnings of the "debasement" of its language through imported foreign words. Other official translations include "visage de la petite mort" for "ahegao".ALT

French people when you call it bukake and not “nut a la visage” and shibari instead of “corde attacher l'submissive”

Using an AI Browser Lets Hackers Drain Your Bank Account Just by Showing You a Public Reddit Post
It's alarmingly easy for bad actors to trick a browser AI into following malicious instructions embedded in publicly available content.
    Futurism

Advantages of using an “AI” browser: you can press a button to generate a summery of the website you’re looking at, which will be full of errors and misrepresent the source by focusing on the wrong thing.

Disadvantages of using an “AI” browser: if you summarize the wrong website all your private information and money will be stolen. This can be done even on trustworthy sites by someone posting a comment underneath a useful post with the malicious text in it.
